Zeek had been away from the music world for 10 years when, in 1996, Zeek met a young guitarist/singer, Bas Lute (the Rebel Jesus). He convinced Zeek to start making music again, so Zeek began to write songs. Then came the question: What should be the name of this project? After weeks of name-calling, he remembered the old Snap-on song, Zeek the Freak. And that fitted the idea for the project to a T. Zeek wanted a theatrical show along with the music.
In 1996, the first cassette tape, 'It's Your Roond' was released. That was followed by 'The Word According To The Philosophy Of The Happy Psycho' in 1997. Then in 1998, the 3rd cassette 'Freakin' Out With The Necrophiliac Cowboy", was released. Then, Zeek decided he'd like to play the music of the cassettes live. So he arranged a band, including Bas, to support the band The Bouncing Betty's. A band from Snap-on band member The Great Giz.
The show was such a success, he wanted to play more and so up until 2016, many gigs have been played. Through the years, most of the musicians have left, and new ones have replaced them, with only The Rebel Jesus being there from start to finish in 2016. Zeek released another cassette tape in the year 2000, 'Transvestite Femme Fatal', and it was not until 2008 that ZEEKtheFREAK released his first CD.
